A bill to make provision relating to the promotion of enterprise and economic growth; and provision restricting exit payments in relation to public sector employment. The first reading took place on 16 September 2015. This stage is a formality that signals the start of the Bill's journey through the Lords. The second reading - the general debate on all aspects of the Bill - takes place on 12 October 2015. (The Law Commission and the Scottish Law Commission have detailed their recommended insurance reforms which have been included in the Bill. Measures include: a legal obligation on insurance companies to pay valid claims within a reasonable time; new rights for policyholders to claim damages for any additional loss they suffer because of the insurer's late or non-payment; and changes to bring insurance law into line with general contract law principles)
