P&O uses legal loophole to pay its workers hourly rate of £1.83

Sun, 07 Jul 2019

The Government is to introduce legislation in 2019, which will aim to ensure the national minimum wage (NMW) is paid to all maritime workers operating in UK internal waters as P&O came bottom in a league table of ferry operators, paying its foreign workers a basic hourly rate as low as £1.83, because the NMW does not apply on the high seas. The legislation will not however apply to workers operating on international routes from the UK.
