Councils splurge £625m on golden goodbye deals for staff

Local authorities across Scotland have spent more than £625 million on exit packages for staff in the past six years. More than 15,000 severance deals have been struck by councils since the 2011-12 financial year, according to Audit Scotland. In that time the average package paid was £40,000.
